Look within before looking outside

The journey of finding the cosmic power is the journey of finding oneself. That god exists is questionable but there is a leading energy that guides, supports and fulfils is most definite. The journey of exploring where you find your grounding is long and complicated, that only a few venture into. Many of us continue to associate with the religion we are born into without learning much of its essence or the essence of other religions. But the ones who associate with spirituality engage in a way more complex and mystifying journey of finding their place and peace in this lifetime.

In furthering your search for your true self you try connecting to different mediums. One of them, the primary perhaps is god. Humans claim to know a lot if not all about god and in this overestimation of knowing true god they often turn into intolerants and fanatics. This soul searching however can take another route. It can be searching into the person you are sometimes. Many people, rather than looking outside, look within themselves to find meaning and purpose. A thing that struck with me was this looking into oneself.

Musician Vipul Dhanaker speaks about this in his TEDX talk. He says, life will become much simpler, happier perhaps if we start looking for the good in others and identify the bad in us. He believes it does us little good to assume we are good people;  that true life only begins when we accept our negative side.  He believes when you help someone it has selfish motive of feeling good. The aura of being a kind human is the primary purpose, conscious or otherwise. Having felt that after helping is where the transaction ends and expecting anything else in return beyond that is what is holding you back.

Spirituality is often shown in excessive light of what it truly is. The journey of finding the spiritual truth of your life is in simpler tasks, in shorter joys, perhaps in smaller dreams. It often works for people to worship a form of god but it is equally alright to find your spirituality in landscapes, deeds, work, leisure and meditation. Cosmic energy is as much engrained within you as it is outside, in others, in the gods we know and the feasts and festivals of life.

Journal entry 2025

TW- Suicide, anxiety, mental health. A few months ago, I rang up my mother crying, unaware of what that conversation would open up for me. While we were talking, she casually remarked how she had never known me to have cried a lot growing up. A simple observation that didn't seem to strike me for the few seconds and then it did. My mother was unaware of how easily or often I cried growing up. And that opened a Pandora's box of unpleasant memories. It struck me that I had cried almost every day for as long as my memory stood correct and that I had mostly cried before bedtime or after waking up. This meant two things, my immediate family did not always know of the crying and that it was not being triggered by an active element.
